Health
No vaccinations are required to enter Italy or to re-enter the U.S. and Canada. Tourists requiring urgent medical care should call 118 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room (Pronto Soccorso).
Pharmacies (Farmacie)
Pharmacies generally follow local shop hours (usually 9:00AM – 1:00 PM and 4.00 – 8:00 PM Monday through Saturday) with local variations. Night-time and Sunday service is provided on a rotating basis. Night-time and Sunday rotation Calendar is posted outside each Pharmacy. No grocery store (or any other store) in Italy has a pharmacy section or sell prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
Health Services and Insurance Policy
Italy has no medical program covering U.S. and Canada citizens, therefore, tourists from these countries are advised to take out an insurance policy before leaving home and procure a document certifying coverage by a H.M.O. or local health-care service.
